In 7 years working for this company I have witnessed the transformation of the organization from being a small business into a medium size company, national leader and global competitor. This company was founded by a successful scientist with a specific mission and vision, to educate physicians around the world and to help thousands of sick men, women and children. It definitely made my time here much more worthwhile. I am super thankful that I was given the opportunity to work for Great Plains Laboratory, and I am appreciative of my coworkers and direct supervisor for always creating such a fun and friendly work environment. However, if you do your job and show up when you're supposed to, there should be no reason to have conflict with any members of management. Upper management consists mainly of family members of the owner. I would keep what you wouldn't want spread around to yourself. The people who work for GPL are all really nice, but there is way too much gossip. If you love typing, taking payments, and answering phones, then this position will be perfect for you. Working as a Billing Analyst, it's A LOT of repetition and mundane tasks. However, as with any job, there are some downsides as well. The pay is decent for the workload, and the benefits are excellent. I have been with Great Plains for a little over 6 months now and my experience working at Great Plains Laboratory has been pleasant overall. They took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity to display and further perfect my skills while proving my - more. Getting back to the title of my review - I feel incredibly lucky to have found the Great Plains Laboratory during a job search several years ago. In that same 3+ years, I've also seen GPL reward those hard-working, self-motivated employees who are willing to pay their dues (garnering a bit of longevity) and who've continuously displayed a skillset that contributes to the company's overall functionality. This is obviously not a realistic expectation in the workforce, and if that's how you define "little opportunity for upward mobility" you are correct, but should return to the real world soon. In my 3+ years at GPL I've seen many co-workers become discouraged to the point of resignation as a result of not receiving a promotion to management within their first 6 months with the company. That being said, these "growing pains" will recede. I myself have experienced the negative impact of volume-induced stress, but GPL is headed in the right direction regarding properly staffing departments to accommodate for this increase in volume. A common theme across departments at GPL - high work volume (as a result of rapid growth) can lead to frustration and even resentment if you don't possess the proper hard-working, self-motivated and determined mindset. I happen to be the type of person that welcomes these challenges, and one who extracts enjoyment and pride in unearthing a solution to overcome them. I would gladly go back if management was replaced because the job itself is very satisfying and the pay/benefits are great.Īs with any company, you will be faced with normal daily challenges at GPL.

It’s ok if you type in the chat, but don’t speak aloud because you will be perceived as “lazy”. Every department has group chats and they will chat badly about others, including management. Also, other departments will say things about you and be rude for absolutely no reason besides the fact that they do not understand what you do all day. You will be chastised for things that are not explained to you and expected to just take it. On top of that, management loves to talk behind your back and to your coworkers, and will not help you with anything that comes to the job title itself. I was never appreciated for the hard and extra work that I put in, and was spoke down to when I asked for more things to do. There are so many things that were said/done by management that were downright inappropriate, and the only reason why they’re not reprimanded for behavior is because it is a family ran business. However, the sole reason I left was because of MANAGEMENT. I loved my role here and was very good at it. I noticed my last review was removed, so let’s start over.
